Common Questions About Microsoft Licensing

If you do not see your question here, contact us and we will walk through your specific situation.

How do Microsoft license renewals work through TrellisPoint?

TrellisPoint handles your renewal logistics. We track your renewal dates, notify you well in advance, and work with you to review your license mix before renewing. Renewals process through Microsoft's commercial channel with TrellisPoint as your reseller of record. You stay in control of quantities and SKUs.

How quickly can TrellisPoint provision new licenses?

Most Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform licenses provision within one to two business days after order confirmation. Azure subscriptions often activate within hours. Larger enterprise agreements and custom licensing structures may take longer depending on volume and terms.

Is buying through TrellisPoint different from buying directly from Microsoft?

The licenses are identical. You get the same Microsoft software, the same service agreement, and the same admin center access as a direct customer. The difference is that you gain a dedicated partner for licensing guidance, support, and services. TrellisPoint's direct Microsoft partner status gives you access to premier support escalation paths that most customers cannot reach on their own.

Can we transfer our existing licenses to TrellisPoint as our reseller?

Yes. A partner transfer is typically a straightforward process that does not interrupt your existing licenses or services. We walk you through the steps and handle the coordination with Microsoft on your behalf.

What is the difference between Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Pro?

Copilot Pro is a consumer subscription ($20 per user per month) for individuals using personal Microsoft 365 accounts. Microsoft 365 Copilot ($30 per user per month, available at $21 through June 30, 2026 on annual commit) is the commercial license designed for organizations. It requires a qualifying commercial Microsoft 365 license and adds AI in Teams, role-based Copilot experiences for Sales, Service, and Finance, and enterprise security and compliance controls.

What is changing with Microsoft pricing in July 2026?

Microsoft has announced price increases on most Microsoft 365 SKUs effective July 1, 2026. Business Standard moves from $12.50 to $14.50 per user per month, E3 from $36.00 to $39.00, and E5 from $57.00 to $60.00. Customers on active annual subscriptions are locked in at current pricing through their next renewal after that date. Contact us to review your renewal timeline before the increase takes effect.

Can we add or remove licenses mid-contract?

Adding licenses mid-contract is available at any time and is prorated to your next renewal date. Removing licenses generally requires waiting until your next renewal on most Microsoft commercial plans. Some plans offer more flexibility. We help you structure agreements to accommodate expected growth or contraction.

How does TrellisPoint help us right-size our license footprint?

We run a license review during onboarding and on a recurring basis. We look at active versus assigned licenses, which apps are actually being used, and whether the current SKU mix matches your actual use cases. Clients regularly find opportunities to reallocate or reduce licenses without losing capabilities, which frees up budget for higher-value investments.

We are concerned about disruption when switching resellers. What should we expect?

The switch does not affect your users or services and involves no downtime. The process requires a consent step in your Microsoft admin center and brief coordination between resellers. We manage the entire process and provide a clear checklist so nothing falls through the gaps.
