How To Change Your Microsoft Teams Ringtone
Is anyone ready for a new Microsoft Teams ringtone yet? With the growth of remote work and the steady increase in virtual meetings and calls, it's easy to get tired of hearing the same sound all day. We were pleased to learn we actually have options to change the default Teams ringtone a few weeks back, when Microsoft announced a Remix of that basic ringtone we've all been hearing for years.
We had no idea you could even change your ringtone in the first place, which is exactly why we wanted to share it. So whether you're after a calmer (or more inspiring) ring during your 8-to-5, want a more personal sound, or just have a few minutes to kill, read on for how to do it.

Where to Find the Microsoft Teams Ringtone Setting
Good news since we first wrote this: you can now change your ringtone on both desktop and mobile. Ringtones are set per device, so you can run a different one on your laptop than on your phone if you like. Here's the current path in the Teams app:
Step 1. Select Settings and more (the three-dot menu) next to your profile picture at the top of Teams.
Step 2. Choose Settings, then go to Calls.
Step 3. Under Call handling and forwarding, find Choose a ringtone. You can preview and set a ringtone for your normal calls, and Teams now lets you pick separate tones for forwarded, delegated, and call group calls too.
Which Microsoft Teams Ringtone Are You?
Now that you've found this setting that will quietly improve your day, we want to know which ringtone you picked. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Remix: The best ringtone to kick off or close the week.
- High Score: Gives you that '80s Atari video game vibe.
- Wish Granted: Sounds like your Fairy Godmother just waved her magic wand.
- Wobble: Your digital take on the basic ringtone.
These all sound better, right? If that default ringtone has been driving you and everyone around you a little crazy, you're not alone. Search "Microsoft Teams ringtone" and you'll find feature requests dating back to 2020. We couldn't pin down a specific line item in the release notes, but it appears the setting rolled into preferences sometime in late 2021 or early 2022.
What About Notification Settings?
Some of you might be wondering how to ditch the default Teams notification sounds too. Those live in a different spot from ringtones, under Settings > Notifications and activity, where you can adjust the sounds for your dings and bings. On mobile, you'll find the same controls under your Notifications settings.
Getting More Out of Microsoft Teams
The Teams UI isn't always the clearest, but we're big fans of the platform here at TrellisPoint. We've spent real time exploring it, and there's a lot more under the hood than ringtones, from deeper integrations to automation that connects Teams with the rest of your business apps across the Microsoft platform, including Dynamics 365 and Power Platform.
If you want to push Teams further, Microsoft Copilot can surface meeting recaps, action items, and answers directly inside Teams, so the platform does more of the work for you. We help businesses connect these tools so the day-to-day actually gets easier.
Enjoy the new ringtone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change my Microsoft Teams ringtone on mobile?
Yes. The same ringtone options are now available on both desktop and mobile. Ringtones are set per device, so you can choose one tone for your computer and a different one for your phone if you prefer.
Where is the ringtone setting in the new Teams?
Select Settings and more (the three-dot menu) next to your profile picture, choose Settings, then go to Calls. Under Call handling and forwarding, you'll find Choose a ringtone.
Can I set different ringtones for different types of calls?
Yes. Teams lets you pick separate ringtones for your normal calls, forwarded calls, delegated calls, and call group calls. Note that calls coming to you as a member of a call group will always use the default ringtone.
How do I change Teams notification sounds instead of the ringtone?
Notification sounds are separate from ringtones. Go to Settings > Notifications and activity to adjust the sounds for messages and alerts. The ringtone setting only controls incoming calls.
Why don't I see the ringtone options on my screen?
Ringtone selection requires a calling plan or phone capability in your Teams license, so the options may not appear if your organization hasn't enabled Teams calling. If you're unsure what your setup supports, your IT admin or a Microsoft partner like TrellisPoint can help you sort it out.
